PETERSBURG – A four-run sixth inning helped South Spencer beat Pike Central 6-5 in PAC baseball on Thursday.
Entering the inning trailing by two runs, the Rebels took advantage of an error at third base that allowed Beau Heck to reach. Bryan Trone followed with a walk and with one out, Brody Heichelbech walked to load the bases for Duke Sitzman, who grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Heck.
A walk to Ty Brown reloaded the bases and Denver Epperson's walk tied the game at 4-4. Noah Bunner followed with a two-run RBI single that gave the Rebels a two-run advantage.
In the bottom half, the Chargers got a run back when Aaron Johnson led off by reaching base on a hit by pitch and he scored on Kendric Sorgius' RBI single, pulling Pike Central within a run.
Bunner's two-run home run in the first gave South Spencer an early 2-0 lead but Pike Central answered with four runs in the bottom half.
Albert Whitehead and Isaac Burdette drew back-to-back walks and Jiles Mason's RBI single made it 2-1. Noah Meece's two-run RBI single gave Pike Central a one-run lead and Meece scoring on a wild pitch later in the frame gave the Chargers a 4-2 advantage.
Bunner was just as productive on the mound as he was at the plate. He pitched a complete-game and allowed five runs—three earned—on eight hits and three walks. He also struck out eight batters in his 115-pitch outing.
Offensively, Bunner went 3-for-4 with a run and four RBIs. Brown finished 1-for-3 with two runs and Epperson was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

For Pike Central, Sorgius was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Meece finished 3-for-3 with a run and RBI.
With the victory, the Rebels improved to 3-16 on the season. South Spencer's game against county rival Heritage Hills that was scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to wet field conditions from rain the night before.
South Spencer will open the IHSAA Class 2A sectional on Wednesday against Tell City at 5 p.m. The winner of that game will face either Mater Dei or North Posey in the semifinal on Thursday.
