The Raiders allowed five walks combined along with two hit by pitches but stranded all seven Rebels on the bases.
Senior Brice King took the victory, pitching 2 2/3 innings and striking out four batters. Junior Calib Sherman started the game and went 2 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking four. Junior Evan McClain and senior Kyan Thyen pitched the final two frames, striking out two apiece.
Offensively, the Raiders scored in all but one inning.
Sophomore Tate Whitehead got the first inning started by reaching on a hit by pitch. After a passed ball moved him over to second, he advanced to third on a ground-out before scoring on an error to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
Leading 2-0 in the third, junior Hudson Allen hit an RBI single to extend the margin to three runs. An inning later, Whitehead’s base hit scored another run to extend the advantage to 4-0.
The Raiders added a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to gradually extend the lead and put the game out of reach.
Allen finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs and McClain was 2 for 5 with a run scored.
Sophomore Mason Eble had the loss for the Rebels, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing five runs—three earned—on seven hits. He walked four and struck out one.
South Spencer earned its first victory of the season Thursday with a 10-3 win over conference foe Tell City behind a complete-game performance from Noah Bunner on the mound.
Bunner gave up three earned runs on five hits while striking out eight batters and walking two.
The Rebels took control in the first, scoring five times. South Spencer drew four-consecutive walks in the first before two wild pitches allowed two runs to score. An error made it a three-run contest before RBI singles from Denver Epperson and Beau Heck pushed the lead to 5-0.
After the Marksmen rallied with two runs in the fifth, the Rebels answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame and added three more in the sixth.
