ROCKPORT — Mother Nature prevented an American Legion baseball state champion from being crowned in Rockport July 26.
With Terre Haute Post 346, Kokomo Post 6 and Muncie Post 19 all still alive for a state championship, inclement weather and wet field conditions forced the tourney to move to Kokomo’s Highland Park and conclude Saturday.
The move was made because of the unfavorable forecast in Rockport for the rest of the week.
Terre Haute was scheduled to play Kokomo with the winner facing Muncie later in the afternoon for a trip to the Great Lakes regional.
Despite the early ending to the festivities in Rockport, Post 254 manager Jim Haaff thanked the community for throwing its support behind American Legion baseball.
“We have to raise a little money and we thank those who have contributed to us to keep this thing going,” Haaff said. “We’re forever grateful to people like that and evidently, they see a need for it too because they’re able to help us.”
