TELL CITY — The immediate moments following South Spencer’s game against North Posey were tense after central dispatch locally received a non-specific report regarding an active shooter at a school Feb. 28
Area law enforcement responded immediately and Bryan Taylor Sports Arena was evacuated so officers could look room-to-room to make sure there wasn’t an active threat.
“Detectives promptly tracked down the adult male Tell City resident that placed the initial call,” a release from the Tell City Police Department said. “It was determined that no credible information existed to substantiate a threat to our schools or community.”
As a result of the evacuation and subsequent search, the second first round game between Crawford County and Forest Park was postponed to the following evening.
“Nothing but complimentary things to say about the Tell City school administraton and the way they handled that situation,” Rebels coach Matt Britton said. “Very thankful for our law enforcement and the way they handled that situation as well, we felt safe the entire time.”
Forest Park went on to beat Crawford County, 24 hours after it was originally scheduled.
