Patriots win on chip-off
WASHINGTON — Heritage Hills and Washington played to a 194-194 tie in boys golf on May 1 and after the fifth player score was also tied, the Patriots and Hatchets settled the match with a chip-off.
The chip-off featured on shot each by all five players on each team and after 10 shots, it was Patriot Nolan Raaf who secured the win for Heritage Hills with the closest shot.
Raaf was the medalist with a 43 for the Patriots and Daniel Guth added a 46. Braylon Caswell shot a 50 while Colt Caswell carded a 55. Lane Neighbors finished with a 56.
On May 2, Heritage Hills lost to Evansville Memorial by 20 strokes, 155-175.
Braylon Caswell had a team-best 40 and Guth added a 42. Dakota Boerste shot 45 while Raaf and Noah Rexing each carded a 48. Preston Coop finished with 50.
Rebels down Pike Central
PETERSBURG — South Spencer shot 165 as a team and beat Pike Central by 22 strokes in boys golf Thursday.
Cade Schiff earned medalist honors by shooting a 38 while Briten Gee and Zach Hamilton each added a 42. Isaac Wittman rounded out the scoring with a 43.
The Rebels were scheduled to host the Rebel Invitational on Saturday before traveling to Boonville on Thursday to take on the Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. The PAC match takes place on Saturday at 8 a.m. and will be contested at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery.
Patriots take down Jeeps 5-0, Rebels 4-1
LINCOLN CITY — Heritage Hills cruised to a 5-0 win in girls tennis over Northeast Dubois on Thursday.
Emma Zanibellato won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and Kenley Bell was victorious in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Ella Commens won her No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-0.
Miah Rahman and Becca Heeke won in No. 1 doubles 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 and in No. 2 doubles, Taylor Ruxer and Arrissa Hall were victorious 6-2, 7-5.
On May 2, the Patriots beat county rival South Spencer 4-1.
Zanibellato beat Kiya White in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Commens defeated Sarah Brown 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 singles play.
Rahman and Heeke topped Kendalyn Shourds and Kylea Donoho 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in No. 1 doubles and in No. 2 doubles, Ruxer and Hall rallied to beat MaryAlice Scarbrough and Isabella Jarboe 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
The Rebels’ only win came in No. 2 singles with Yara Theis beating Bell.
Heritage Hills’ Zollman earns national recognition
LEESBURG, Va. — The National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA) announced May 5 that Heritage Hills High School earned the Program of Excellence distinction for the 2023-26 period.
According to the release, the Patriots’ strength and conditioning program displayed “excellence in safety, quality, efficacy, outreach and highlighting. They have additionally displayed excellence in continuing education and technology usage in their strength and conditioning program.”
Heritage Hills strength and conditioning program has been led by Adam Zollman.
The NHSSCA was created in 2016 by high school strength and conditioning coaches and its mission is to “educate, equip and empower coaches to make a positive impact in the lives of student athletes.”
