ROCKPORT — The Christian Resource Center in Rockport held their annual Christmas toy drive for Spencer County families. This year, the Toys For Tots program positively impacted the lives of 75 families and 250 children for the holiday season.
The toy drive was held Saturday, Dec. 17, at the community center at Rockport City Park. Volunteers worked together to give the registered families their toys bags and spread some Christmas cheer.
Throughout the year, when a new toy is donated to the Christian Resource Center, is it then put aside for the Toys for Tots event.
Each bag of toys is put together for one child, specifying their age and gender, and they are organized by age groups.
At the community center in Rockport, the families were also provided with a free ham from the Kiwanis Club, cookies, stockings, community support and prayer.
The Toys for Tots program through the CRC has grown each year, and 250 children is the most they have ever provided for.
This outreach could not be possible without the volunteers, community members, and other organizations involved in the Toys for Tots program in Spencer County.
The South Spencer Key Club decorated the gift bags, The Rockport Police Department collected and helped distribute the gifts, Tri-Kappa donated toys, Richland Christian Church donated stockings, and the CRC volunteers and board members dedicated their time for the toy drive to run smoothly and efficiently.
CRC Executive Director Dee Denu explains that this outreach is a way to provide families with presents for their children but more importantly, to give hope to the families during these trying times, placing joy in their hearts this Christmas.
