HAWESVILLE — Aaron Wilborn, of Hawesville, Ky, recently stepped into a new suit, transforming into the Friendly Neighborhood Spider Guy, as a party and family friendly event entertainer serving the Kentuckiana area.
His inspiration for the Friendly Neighborhood Spider Guy comes from many years of cosplaying and attending Comic-Con Conventions with his wife, Katy. Wilborn has always loved superheroes and explains that with cosplaying as a character, you can become whoever you want.
While he and his family have experience becoming characters to attend cosplay events, this is the first time he has stepped into the world of becoming a family event entertainer.
His first trial run with something like this came by chance, when the Hoosier National Forest explained they needed a Spider-Man character for a children’s Halloween event. Wilborn had a suit, so he showed up for the event and that is where the idea was born to create the Friendly Neighborhood Spider Guy.
His first official gig as a family friendly entertainer took place Thursday, Feb. 9, at Meadow Lands Elementary in Owensboro, Ky., for their family dance night.
“It was a blast,” says Wilborn of his experience at the event. He explains that it was a nice feeling to watch the children truly light up when they saw him in his spider guy suit and he would 100% do it again.
The first event was also an uplifting one for Wilborn. He felt like he made a difference in some of the children’s lives and was able to make them happy by attending their event as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider Guy.
Not only did he take photos with both children and the adults with a fun comic themed backdrop, he also got to interact with the families and even started a dance conga line with a group of children at the dance.
Wilborn will swing into parties or family events on both the Kentucky and Indiana side of the river. For a children’s party or family event, he can travel to Hancock County, Perry County, Spencer County, Daviess County and possibly further if needed.
Eventually, he’s thinking it will be interesting to see how this endeavor could grow into different characters but is just going to start off as being one for now.
Not only can one book Friendly Neighborhood Spider Guy for an event but photography options from Katydid Photography, balloon twisting, balloon arches and face painting from Julie Ledford Durbin, or sweets from Kim’s Sugar Bowl can be paired with a booking as well.
Families can book either the classic spider guy or captain spider guy suit, which comes with a shield.
