William “Bill” Donald Ramsey, 73, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington after a lengthy illness.

Bill was born on Dec. 15, 1948, in Evansville, Ind., and was the son of Raymond “Buster” Courtland and Naomi Kessner Ramsey, both of whom preceded him in death. He served at different times in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and National Guard, and actively served his country during Vietnam and Desert Storm. Bill was a member of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church and was the former owner of Bill Ramsey Insurance Agency in Richmond.

Survivors include, his wife, Katherine “Kathy” Cooper Ramsey; three sons, Nick Ramsey, Chris Ramsey and Jacob Ramsey; four grandchildren, Ally Foley, Emma Grace Dishman, Nicholas Michael Ramsey and William Sawyer Ramsey; three brothers, Raymond Ramsey, Maurice Ramsey and Michael Ramsey; three sisters, Sharon Lynch, Linda Chancellor and Martha Clark; and many close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Misty Daniel Ramsey.

A funeral Mass was Tuesday, May 10, at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donnie Aldridge, Glenn Gordan, Bob Heyer, Wes Jones, Jerneal Harrison, and Bill Noland. Honorary bearers were his nephews and members of the 2123rd Transportation Unit.

Visitation was Monday, May 9, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Smile Train.
