EVANSVILLE — Theresa Ann Koetter, 92, of Evansville, Ind., passed away peacefully May 19, 2023, in Evansville, Ind.

Born Feb. 23, 1931, in Newburgh, Ind., she was the daughter of Lillian Hartman and Theodore Sasse.

Theresa graduated with a master’s in teaching. As a nun, Sr. Mary Hugh spent many years teaching at various locations in Southern Indiana. Later, she married Bill Koetter and helped him raise his seven children, all the while continuing to teach until her retirement.

She is survived by five siblings, Lillian Loveall of Newburgh, Joan Ubelhor of Evansville, Emily Thompson of Newburgh, Clara Louise Honningford of Evansville, Sr. Joan Marie Sasse OSB (Martha) of Grand Terrace, Calif.; her stepchildren, Regis Koetter, Raymond Koetter and Mark Koetter all of Starlite, Ind., Darlene Kuzmic of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Susan Fields of Starlite; along with several grandchildren.

Theresa was preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Bill”; her parents; sisters, Dorthy Gabel, Helen Myers and Eva Marie Helmbock; brothers, John Joseph Sasse and Theodore Louis Sasse; and her stepchildren, David Koetter and Marilyn Tolle.

A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, May 23, at University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Evansville, Ind., with Fr. John Sasse and Fr. Ron Kreilein officiating.

Visitation was Tuesday, May 23, at University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Evansville, Ind., in the chapel.

Additional visitation was at St. John the Baptist- Starlite in Floyds Knobs, Ind. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
