PAOLI — The IU Health Paoli Hospital obstetrics services is one of only three Indiana hospitals ranked as “high performing” in a recent national account by U.S. News and World Report.
The news source’s first ever “Best Hospitals for Maternity” list named the OB services at IU Bloomington, St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart and the IU Health Paoli hospital as “high performing in adult maternity care.”
Hospital data for uncomplicated pregnancies was considered for the evaluation, which included the objective factors of early deliveries, Cesarean sections, newborn complications, and rate of exclusive breast milk feeding.
“SICHC is privileged to have three physicians who deliver pregnancies at IU Health Paoli, supported by IU OB nursing staff,” said CEO Nancy Radcliff. “Dr. Yolanda Yoder, Dr. Sean Salés and Dr. Karen Farris from our SICHC staff all hold hospital privileges at the Paoli facility and deliver babies — all three can assist in Cesarean surgery as needed.”
“We at SICHC are extraordinarily grateful that IU Health Paoli maintains these critical OB services in the region,” said Dr. Yoder. “It wasn’t that long ago when the possibility existed that no hospital-based OB services might be available — IU Health serves as a critical service provider here.”
Dr. Yoder continued: “We also know firsthand that patients appreciate the personal care they get at a small community hospital with a team of care providers that are supported by the strength of IU Health behind them.”
“SICHC congratulates IU Health Paoli on achieving this high performing ranking and we count it a privilege for the opportunity to serve and be on their team,” Radcliff said.
Quoted in area media, IU Health Paoli President Larry Bailey said the Paoli hospital “was particularly proud of our maternity services — we are a small team and we work very hard to make every person’s maternity experience a positive one.”
