JASPER — Work continued to progress in downtown Jasper this week as part of the Courthouse Square Infrastructure and Revitalization project in the southwest corner, thanks to enjoyable weather conditions
On Friday, construction crews were busy pouring new concrete curbs and sidewalks in the southwest quadrant, while a subcontractor began making repairs to below ground openings in some buildings.
An alleyway located just east of The Astra will be closed beginning Monday, May 8 for reconstruction and will remain closed for at least eight weeks. The alley north of The Astra is open.
As for landscaping, the northeast and northwest quadrants are seeing new annuals added in select in-ground and above-ground planters, while perennials and trees will be planted in the fall. The north portion of the square will also have benches, bike racks and trash cans added in the coming weeks.
While a new fire pit has been installed, a screen and lighting for placement around the pit should arrive in the next few weeks.
Lower-level access to the Dubois County Courthouse on the west side is now closed to the public and parking adjacent to city hall remains available for two-hour public parking intervals. Foot traffic and accessibility to building will continue to be maintained at all times.
The next meeting of city, county and contractor representatives is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17.
