JASPER — A public hearing Thursday afternoon for the City of Jasper Utility Service Board will center around a proposed second waste water treatment facility to handle additional customers for the city and new customers through the Dubois County Regional Sewer District.
At 2:30 p.m. today, March 16, engineering firm Midwest Engineers will provide a project overview. The public can view copies of the preliminary engineering report now through Tuesday, March 21 at the Utility Business Office at 610 Main Street in Jasper.
Customers in Portersville and Haysville are the first to be included in the regional sewer district, with an estimated 300 add-ons.
The new plant is being proposed for a site near Portersville Road and County Road 500 North, which would require a four-to-five acre land purchase by the city. Engineers estimate the new plant could treat an additional 750,000 gallons of daily wastewater.
The project has an estimated cost of $18 million for the city, which the city has applied for a Wastewater State Revolving Fund Loan The price tag does not including additional costs to the county's regional sewer district to run lines to Haysville and Portersville.
The public will have an opportunity to provide comment and ask questions about the project during the public hearing. Written comments are also being accepted through Tuesday, March 21.
Written comments regarding this project should be sent to the City of Jasper Utility Business Office, 610 Main Street, PO Box 750, Jasper, IN 47547-0750 prior to March 21.
