FERDINAND — The 11th annual Heartland Half Marathon will make its final stop in the three-year circuit in Ferdinand this fall. The race is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16, the same day as the popular Ferdinand Folk Festival. This community, fun-filled event will include a Half Marathon, 5K, and Team Challenge on Saturday with the Kids Fun Run and Festival kicking off the weekend activities on Friday, Sept. 15.
Along with a new date (typically the race is Labor Day Weekend) and new location, this year’s event has a new route filled with historic landmarks and unbelievable sites and scenery through the beautiful rolling hills of Ferdinand. Also new this year is the Kids Fun Run taking place on Friday, prior to the other Heartland events. Registration will be at 5:30pm (EST) with the 1.1 mile fun run beginning at 6pm taking the kids around Ferdinand’s 18th Street Park walking path.
Half Marathon & Team Challenge participants will receive a commemorative medal that depicts the county’s geographic landscape, displaying iconic emblems honoring the area’s heritage! If registered by August 13th, pre-registered runners for all events will receive a race t-shirt.
Half Marathon: $60 now until June 25. The fee will increase to $70 starting June 26, and then again to $80 on August 13 until race day.
5K: $25 now until June 25. The fee will increase to $30 June 26 until race day.
Team Challenge: $30 per person/$120 per team until June 25. June 26, the fee increases to $35 per person/ $140 per team until race day.
Kids Fun Run: $20 before August 13; $25 starting August 13-Race Day
The Heartland event is grounded with community support as 10% of the Heartland Half Marathon, 5K, and Team Challenge goes into the DC Multisport Endowment for succession planning of the organization and future charitable donations. The rest of the proceeds from Heartland Half Marathon, 5K, and Team Challenge are split evenly and given to the Phillip R. Dawkins Heart & Vascular Center and Girls on the Run of Southwest Indiana.
