JASPER — The city of Jasper will host a virtual open house to gather public input on the draft of its multimodal transportation plan on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Two time windows are available for guests: from 11 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 7 p.m.

Originally anticipated as in-person events, the open house has been reimagined in a virtual format for safety purposes. Links to the event details and registration can be found at the following addresses.

Multimodal planning refers to transportation and land use planning that considers diverse transportation options. These typically include walking, cycling, public transit and automobile. The planning accounts for land use factors that affect accessibility. This study is focused on fulfilling the following objectives:

  • Perform a comprehensive safety and operations analysis for vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists.
  • Develop a list of recommended transportation improvements, including routes, intersections, programs and policies.
  • Provide comprehensive evaluation of federal, state and other funding opportunities to improve mobility options.
  • Recommend the most appropriate mobility solutions for the City of Jasper based on need analysis, public engagements and possible funding opportunities.

“The plan will be a guidebook for the City on how and where to invest in our network of roads, streets, sidewalks, and trails, and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend,” said Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide.

The virtual meeting will provide an interactive opportunity for participants to guide discussions about the city's future, review the project priorities and recommendations, and provide feedback.

Both lunchtime and evening presentations will be recorded and posted to the City of Jasper’s website jasperindiana.gov for those who are unable to attend live. Residents are encouraged to submit questions and provide your feedback on the recommendations by contacting Director of Community Development and Planning Darla Blazey at dblazey@jasperindiana.gov or 812-482-4225.

Jasper selected Lochmueller Group in March of 2020 to assist in the development and adoption of a multimodal transportation plan. The plan is intended to support and reflect the vision, goals, policies and programs of the city’s latest Impact Jasper Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted in August 2019.
