Dubois County’s unemployment rate fell 1.7 percent from July to August.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development reported Dubois County unemployment at 4.5 percent for August, down from 6.2 percent in July. According to the data, Dubois County had a workforce of 22,964 for August. Of that 21,927 were employed and 1,037 were unemployed.
By way of comparison, Dubois County’s unemployment rate in August 2019 was 3.2 percent.
The 4.5 percent rate puts Dubois County tied at No. 4 in the ranking of the state’s 92 counties, along with Hamilton and Franklin counties.
Daviess County had Indiana’s lowest August rate at 3.5 percent. Lake County had the highest August rate at 9.4 percent.
August unemployment rates for neighboring counties are: Daviess, 3.5 percent (down from 4.3 percent in July); Martin, 3.9 percent (down from 5 percent in July); Orange, 8.1 percent (down from 14.3 percent in July); Perry, 5.5 percent (down from 6.7 percent in July); Pike, 5.4 percent (down from 7.1 percent in July); Spencer, 4.7 percent (down from 5.7 percent in July); and Warrick, 4.7 percent (down from 5.7 percent in July).
The new state report placed Indiana’s overall unemployment rate at 6.5 percent, lower than the national rate of 8.5 percent.
August’s report covers the second half of July and the first few weeks of August.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the August unemployment rates for neighboring states are: Ohio, 8.9 percent (unchanged from July); Kentucky, 7.6 percent (up from 4.5 percent in July); Michigan, 8.7 percent (unchanged from July); and Illinois, 11.0 percent (down from 11.3 percent in July). Other Midwest rates in August were: Minnesota, 7.4 percent (down from 7.7 percent in July); and Wisconsin, 6.2 percent (down from 7.0 percent in July).
