JASPER — A 19-year-old California man was arrested Saturday in Jasper after parking his vehicle in a field, assaulting Memorial Hospital staff and local law enforcement officers.
According to a press release from the Jasper Police Department, officers were dispatched to the University Drive area at Vincennes University-Jasper around 11:20 a.m. in reference to a suspicious male subject whose vehicle was parked in a field behind campus. The subject, later identified as Joseph E. Roy, 19, Downey, Cal., abandoned his vehicle and continued walking southbound on University Drive.
Officers located Roy at the intersection of Gun Club Road and Woodlawn Drive and determined Roy drive his vehicle from Maple Crest Blvd. through the field it was located in. Officers transported Roy to Memorial Hospital for a medical clearance, but while being treated, he battered both staff and officers.
Roy was taken into custody and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on preliminary charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, battery, resisting law enforcement, escape, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, intimidation and disorderly conduct.
