ST. MEINRAD — Units of the St. Meinrad Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire Thursday morning on Fulda Shortcut Road, 2.5 miles south of State Road 62.
Fire Chief Tom Kloeck said Jason Gentry, Fulda, was southbound in a 1983 Chevrolet pickup truck that was overheating. Eventually, he said, it caught on fire.
The department was called to respond at 5:50 a.m. CDT.
Kloeck said a firefighter who lived nearby and a passerby were the first on the scene and the small fire was out when the department’s trucks arrived.
“I didn’t see a fire extinguisher,” Kloeck said. “It looked like they had some water.”
The truck sustained an undetermined amount of damage.
Four trucks and 13 firefighters were on the scene 20 minutes.
