FERDINAND
The community is invited out this Saturday for a concert at The New Farmers Store to enjoy the soulful music of the Troubadours of Divine Bliss and to take in the restored historic Ferdinand building.
The local musicians will be performing the outdoor concert on the new balcony above the parking area of the building from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Keith Fritz, owner and furniture designer at Fritz Fine Furniture was the visionary behind the transformation of 1245 Main Street and returning the 1886 mercantile to its original historical appearance.
The Fritz Fine Furniture workshop in Ferdinand employs skilled artists who custom make fine furniture pieces for interior designers and architects throughout the country.
For him, historic preservation is incredibly important. “I think it’s really important for the local community to invest their resources in making our community the place where the next generation wants to live,” said Fritz.
Fritz purchased the historic main street building in 2019, after it had sat for sale for many years. He has taken this once unattractive empty building and transformed the space to a beautiful community main street attraction.
Joe Helming of Jasper, a local metal artist restored the front of the building while Fritz and his team completed the woodwork restoration.
A vision for the local business owner is to build up the local community by restoring local buildings, providing good jobs, and creating cultural opportunities in his effort to make Ferdinand the place where the next generation wants to live.
Fritz describes life long friends, Rock Emmert and Kris Lasher, as champions of the arts. So, when he thought the parking lot of his building would be a perfect community gathering space, he asked Rock if they would organize this concert event.
For years, Emmert and Lasher have worked to bring cultural experiences that bring a focus to environmental awareness, music, art and the wellness of the community.
They have focused on this through the creation of Project ACORN, which is an acronym for Art, Community, Originality, Rhythm and Nature.
Throughout the years, the Ferdinand couple has coordinated and promoted hundreds of events in efforts to build community, friendships, and relationships that enhance quality of life for the local area.
Activities and events they have formed or partnered with the community to create are the Ferdinand Folk Festival, spoken word nights, musical performances, field trips, and much more.
As a result of the pandemic, Project ACORN has taken a step back from the large number community activities they were putting together. As community members, Emmert and Lasher remain deeply involved with their mission of promoting environmental awareness, music, and the arts in the area.
When Fritz asked if they would put together this concert, Emmert explains they were happy to bring people together to enjoy local artists in a beautiful historic site in the heart of Ferdinand.
The public is invited to this community outdoor concert from 7 p.m. to 9p.m. located in the parking lot at 1245 Main Street Ferdinand, IN 47532. Please bring your own lawn chair for the outdoor balcony concert seating. Admission will be a free will donation to the Troubadours of Divine Bliss.
Madi’s Main Squeeze and The Kitchen Jasper will be serving up refreshments for the evening.
