JASPER — A Sunday afternoon accident on Newton Street in Jasper came as a result of a failure to yield the right of way.

According to information obtained from the Jasper Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene of an accident with injury just before 2 p.m.

A 2021 Chevy Silverado driven by Gerald Hudson, Sr., 87, Jasper, attempted to make a left turn onto Newton Street from Mannheim Road, failed to yield the right of way and struck on oncoming 2021 Volkswagen Atlas driven by Jody Todd, 53, Linton, who was traveling northbound on Newton.

A juvenile passenger in the Volkswagen sustained non-life threatening injuries, was treated and released at the scene. Hudson was cited for failure to yield the right of way. The JPD was assisted by Memorial Hospital EMS and the Jasper Fire Department.
