JASPER — The highly contagious omicron variant of COVID-19 is burgeoning across Indiana with Dubois and 80 other counties classified at the most severe community spread metrics. Indiana Department of Health’s data dashboard Monday shows 262 new cases reported in Dubois County since Friday.
The state reported an additional death in the county due to the virus, bringing that total to 152 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
The state reports 59.9% of Dubois County’s eligible population has received either the Johnson and Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna brands. Anyone age 5 and older can be vaccinated free of charge, but the Pfizer brand is the only vaccine recommended for ages 17 and younger.
Dubois County Health Department’s testing site at 400 Clay Street in Jasper is open Tuesdays and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
PCR tests can be scheduled at coronavirus.in.gov. Those tests results are generally available within two or three days. With a national shortage of rapid tests, only people 50 years and older with symptoms and those under age 18 with symptoms are eligible for the rapid test.
