The Thursday Afternoon Ladies Bowling League of Eastown Recreation Center held its year-end awards luncheon on Thursday, May 20, at the home of Ginger Hedinger. The luncheon committee was Lynn Arthur, Ann Czerwinski, Paula Marshall and Ginger Hedinger.

League Secretary Leisa Lowrey announced the season’s prizes. The first half of the season was won by the Gutter Girls team, consisting of Pat Riley, Marlene Eck and Liz Hagen, and the second half of the season was won by the Strike Outs team, consisting of Leisa Lowrey, Gerri Mroz and Ann Czerwinski. The members of the Strike Outs received certificates as the overall winners, edging out the Bowling Betty’s team, consisting of Ginger Hedinger, Lynn Arthur and Paula Marshall by just one-half of a point.

Gerri Mroz, with a 163 average, received the prize for the League High Average and Sharon Luegers received a certificate for the Most Improved Bowler, having raised her average 11 pins during the season. Diana Collins was recognized for having the game with the most pins over her average, 79 pins. Accolades for the season’s high game of 224 and high series of 542 went to Gerri Mroz.

The Perfect Attendance/Most Games Bowled honors were shared by Liz Hagen, Diana Collins and Lynn Arthur. The Good Sportsmanship Awards went to Vienna Renner, Ginger Hedinger, Paula Marshall and Leisa Lowrey. League President Diana Collins, Treasurer Sharon Luegers and Secretary Leisa Lowrey distributed cash prizes for games won and other honors and gift cards to area merchants to all league bowlers.

The Thursday Afternoon Ladies League meets at Eastown Recreation Center every Thursday afternoon at 12:30 starting on Sept. 2 and continuing for 30 weeks, with a break at the holidays. It is a non-sanctioned “fun” league for women of all abilities; no bowling experience is needed to join.
