Jasper VFW Post #673 Auxiliary held its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 15, 2021, at the post home. President Carrie Vonderheide called the meeting to order and conducted opening ceremonies. In absence of the Chaplain, President Vonderheide gave opening prayers. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.
There were three new petitions for membership this month. The investigating committee found two of the petitions to be in order and recommended them for membership. One petition is still being investigated.
In absence of the Secretary, Sr. Vice Marsha Opel read minutes of the August meeting. The minutes were approved as read. General Orders were read. There was also a letter from the Department President, Linda Misuraca, notifying that District Presidents will be starting auxiliary visits and reminding of Fall Conference, Oct. 8-10 at Indianapolis Marriott East.
Treasurer Diane Brescher read financial reports for August. The reports were filed subject to audit.
On the business of the Christmas party, the chairwoman reports that Sander Catering will prepare the meal of fried chicken, vegetables, salad and rolls. The auxiliary will provide desserts, and there will be a cash bar. No decision on entertainment has been made. Invitations are being prepared for mailing to members at a later date.
The Auxiliary received a donation request from American Legion Riders #147. There was motion to donate toward the purchase of gift baskets for veterans in the hospital in Louisville. The motion was seconded, and the motion passed.
In observance of POW/MIA Recognition Day, a ceremony will be held at the post at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17. The ceremony is to honor the commitment and sacrifices made by our nation’s prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action.
Closing ceremonies were conducted in accordance with the ritual. The meeting was closed with prayer by President Vonderheide, after which the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be Oct. 20, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jasper post, 3131 Newton St. All members are encouraged to attend.
